Mark 8:34-38
34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: "If
anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and
follow me. 35 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses
his life for me and for the gospel will save it. 36 What good is it for a man to
gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? 37 Or what can a man give in
exchange for his soul? 38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this
adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he
comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels."
Romans 6:11-14
11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ
Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey
its evil desires. 13 Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments
of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been
brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as
instruments of righteousness. 14 For sin shall not be your master, because you
are not under law, but under grace.
1 Peter 2:11
Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from
sinful desires, which war against your soul.
